Power BI – The New Updates That Make Building Mobile-Ready Reports Easy

In an increasingly mobile world, the Power BI Mobile app lets users track and analyse business results in real time. Since 2016 it has been possible to build reports tailored to mobile devices by choosing which visualisations to include and where to position them in the mobile layout.

The new updates bring three main improvements:

1. A new phone emulator and an upgraded grid

• The emulator has been updated to match modern devices.
• The old grid has been replaced with a current one in which every cell is split into 9 smaller cells.
• Far more flexibility when resizing and repositioning visualisations.
• The new grid makes it possible to fit more visualisations onto a single page.

2. An updated visualisations pane

• You can now give a visual a name so it is easier to find.
• A visibility indicator distinguishes between a hidden visual and a displayed one.

3. Layering visualisations

• Layered visualisations open the door to interactive reports.
• You can place one visual on top of another, or on top of an image.
• Combine this with bookmarks to build genuinely interactive reports.

How do you get started?

Go to View > Mobile layout in Power BI Desktop and use drag and drop to build reports designed for mobile.
